Construction projects are exciting no matter what size they are for the site manager. But if you are working as a site or project manager on your first major construction project here’s what not to forget!

One of the first things not to forget is that you should have a plan. This is extremely important for larger and more major construction projects as there will be a lot more happening. Having a clear plan that you share with your main construction co-workers will help you to keep the project on track and within your set timings.

You should also not forget your own skills. Even though you are the project manager for your first major project this does not mean you need to sit around and watch. Remeber that you have the skills all of your other workers have. You can get down and dirty with the rest of them. So keep that in mind if the project is running behind, is there anything you can do yourself to help your construction workers out?

One of the main things that project managers forget is that it is no different to any other project. They see the size of the project and change. So, do not forget that this first major project is no different to any other project that you have managed before. Treat it the same as your smaller projects, just remember there will be more people and a larger time scale.

Finally, don’t forget that it can all still be fun! Managing your first major construction project does not need to be a stressful time. As long as you keep on top of your own to-do list, remember to have the correct equipment and materials arriving on the correct day, it can still be fun. You can all still have a laugh. Rember a happy workplace is a hardworking workplace!
